Tizen OS,the New Operating System From a Samsung Initiative Group,Can it be the next Android?

Samsung ,one of the largest Consumer Electronics manufacturers in the world has better plans for the future.They own more than  50% of the total smartphone business but doesn't have an operating system  of their own for them.Most of the samsung devices run o the Google's open source operating system Android.

As Samsung is using an open source operating system in their devices ,this would have benefited them .But that is not what happens.The users of Samsung devices running Android are not much likely to use the samsung services provided with it but they tend to use the google services like google search and play store app.This benefits google with an increased search users and for each app downloaded from th play store it is google who earns the benefit.

This has been disturbing Samsung for quite some time and thus Samsung started to build a new operating system not only for the smartphones but for their other consumer electronics products also.So Under the Linux foundation by the initiative of Samsung and Intel started the Tizen project.

Tizen, is a new Linux based open-source operating system developed under the supervision of a Technical Steering Group including Samsung and Intel.Tizen is developed for use in devices including smartphones, tablets, in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) devices, smart TVs and smart cameras.Tizen Association is developed under Linux Foundation to guide the industrial standards for the Operating system which includes all major manufacturers and operators including Samsung, Intel, Huawei, Fujitsu, NEC, Panasonic, KT, Sprint, SK Telecom, Orange, NTT Docomo and Vodafone.

Samsung also merged their Bada and LiMo projects into Tizen and Intel included some of their MeeGo project into Tizen.Tizen developers says that Tizen is developed to give a consistent user experince across devices and also adapted some of the good features from Android.

Tizen OS is initially released in January 2012 and the stable version available is Tizen 2.2.1.Devices running Tizen are not yet introduced into the market but it is said that devices will be available in market from early 2014.

Tizen is proving SDK for aspiring developers for developing apps for Tizen and Samsung has even announced a $4 million prize money for those developing the best Tizen App.

Samsung expects that Tizen would help them secure their position in the market and would help them to expend beyond that.Also they would be expecting that Tizen can outrun Android as Android is limited as a mobile platform where as Tizen has a wider area of applications.But there are concerns that can Tizen make it as more than 90 % of the smartphones in the market are running Android and making a revolutionary change would need a much larger effort.
