Google Glass:Key Specification and Issues
Google ,the biggest technology giant in the world started
their journey about two decades ago with a search engine and now earned an
inevitable existence in the heart of millions with their innovative ideas and
products. Google became an all in one destination for people in a short time
and what made them achieve it? It’s clearly because of their ability to go for
the next generation technology and they always made it possible with
perfection.
This time it’s the Google Glass , the next amazing product
from Google ,which resembles a pair of traditional eyeglasses which allows
users to surf internet, take pictures, record videos ,send emails and text
messages and could even help users drive through traffic with its inbuilt GPS
system and the wonderful part is ,all this could be done with Voice commands.
Google comes up with the idea of a new gadget that
integrates right into the normal life of man and without any new effort to find
it a new place .There comes the idea of the gadget integrated into the
eyeglasses.Google glass could help people do their task without even
browsing for the right menu, selecting it and confirming it,what you have to do
is just ask for it.
This is how Google Glass works:
Google glass a lid in front of it which displays the contents for the user. The clever arrangement of the lid and by using a projector and a prism Google managed to give the user a rich visual experience with the Glass. The Glass projects the screen for user as follows:
Key Specification of Google Glass:
The full specification of Google Glass is still a mystery but
some of them are revelead by Google itself and by a tech savvy Android developer Jay Lee when he
tried to explore the Glass.According to Lee ,Google runs on Android 4.0.4
Icecream Sandwich and is powered by Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 chipset which is clocked around 1 to 1.2 GHz.There is
682 MB of usable RAM discovered on Glass and he states there would be a 1 GB RAM on the device. The Google
Glass features a 5 MP camera with a 720p capture capacity and a display with resolution of 640x360 pixels. Also Glass has Bluetooth and wi-fi connectivity
support and smartphones with Android 4.0.3 and higher is required to connect
with the Glass through MyGlass app.
Raising Concerns:
Also there has been several concerns raised about the
Glass.Due to its ability to record videos ,images and voice data ,this may be
used for spying and would be treat to privacy and security of people. Also the
use of Glass while driving is being criticized by many as that would increase the accident rates and it’s
going to make governments rethink about approving the Glass.Google ruled out all this concerns and stated that Glass would be a perfect gadget for the future and with its turn by turn navigation assistance could reduce the accidents and offer hands free driving.
After the release of the first edition of Glass, the reviews
are much less comforting for Google .As the Glass is activated by voice people
have to talk loud to make Glass understand what they are saying. Also in a noisy
environment it’s much harder.Glass is only on it’s evolution and it lacks
much app support. Now Google has opened the Glass for developers to develop new
apps for Glass and let’s hope this would bring some momentum to Google Glass.
